Vulkan, Primarch of the Salamanders

Vulkan, Primarch of the Salamanders, the XVIIIth Legion.

This is the next in the series of Primarchs from Forgeworld I’ve been painting. Like his brother Primarchs, Vulkan is a gigantic miniature, easily towering over normal Marines, equal in height to a Dreadnought. He fits into a scenic base, depicting him stomping through the wreckage of the Istvaan Dropsite Massacre. A Salamander and Iron Warrior lie dead amongst the rubble.

I included plenty of photos to show off the miniature in the round. He’s the brightest of the Primarchs I’ve done so far. Ferrus Manus and Horus both wore black armor, with only various metals for contrast. Vulkan on the other hand wears bright green armor, with plenty of gold, bronze, brass, leather, scales, fire, and even a giant skull for decoration.

His armor was done in the same fashion as the Firedrakes I completed earlier, though with considerably more decoration. The salamander-skin cape gives a nice warm natural color to stand out from the hard armor. The plume of fire from the backpack makes a halo of color behind his coal-black face. I kept his base and the scenic base fairly simple (except for the dead Marines) to not distract from all the detail on Vulkan’s armor.

Next up- Roboute Guilliman, Primarch of the Ultramarines!
